Andrew Appel served as the president and CEO of IRI from 2012 through May 2021. During that time, Mr. Appel oversaw a significant transformation of IRI's technology, data, and predictive analytics offerings to become the insights and technology partner of choice for leading retailers, CPG manufacturers and media companies. Key IRI accomplishments under Mr. Appel's leadership include: democratizing Liquid Data; expanding the world's largest repository of anonymized consumer data; creating the IRI partner ecosystem; launching a media business; pioneering solutions that leverage AI and machine learning; strengthening the company's ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts; materially elevating IRI Client Satisfaction ratings; and nurturing an independently ranked, best-in-class internal work culture.
Prior to joining IRI, Mr. Appel was the senior vice president of revenue operations at Accretive Health. He has also held a number of senior leadership positions for Chicago-based professional service firms. He held multiple executive-level roles at Aon, including chief operating officer and chief executive officer of two of the firm's three global divisions: Aon Consulting and Aon Benfield. Prior to Aon, Mr. Appel spent 15 years as a senior partner at McKinsey and Company.
Mr. Appel holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, where he was the Henry Ford II scholar. Additionally, he also serves on the Board of Directors at Alight, Machine Vantage and World Business Chicago.
