Although it has been the fastest growing segment in CPG for a number of years, the perimeter is no longer the slam dunk it once was. Growth has slowed as consumers’ choices have increased, including from newer competitors offering fresh food at lower prices. Price pressures, coupled with a lack of recent innovation in the segment, means a much tougher climate for fresh food manufacturers and retailers.
