Consumers’ shopping and eating patterns are changing, and they are shopping the perimeter of the store for fresh products like never before. In fact, the perimeter, which includes fresh meat, deli, produce, bakery, seafood and prepared foods, can now comprise up to 40 percent of a store’s footprint in some instances. Because the perimeter has changed the retail landscape, IRI and FMI began partnering in 2016 on its “Top Trends in Fresh” series. The result is a regular deep dive into what’s happening in fresh and how retailers and manufacturers can find new growth.
